Useless Reviews is a 2009 series of retro video game reviews credited to the show's lead character himself: Dave 'The Useless' Wilson. To date, all games reviewed have been of NES games. Inspiration for the series includes IGSRJ, the Angry Video Game Nerd, the Nostalgia Critic, and grunge music such as Nirvana.
The series was designed to create a new style of retro game reviewing on YouTube: specifically, 'useless reviewing.' This concept featured the main character, Dave 'The Useless' Wilson, as an irritated retro video game obsessionist who took the titles he played much too seriously, with his frustrations often actually being due to him not being very good at gaming. While this is similar on the surface to other satirical angry reviewer characters, such as the Angry Video Game Nerd and the Irate Gamer, the character was designed for his aggression to be as disturbing at times as it was funny; the humor and character were often so dry and sarcastic that comments on the channel suggested that some people couldn't tell whether the character's cynical attitudes were real.
